Editorial Policy

1. Editorial Standards

Origin Pakistan's newsroom is committed to reporting that is accurate, fair, and independent. These standards guide every article we publish, from a short news brief to a longer analysis piece:

• Accuracy first. We would rather be right and a little later than fast and wrong. Where we are not confident in a detail, we say so or leave it out.
• Editorial independence. Coverage decisions are made by our editorial team, free from advertiser, sponsor, or outside political influence.
• Fairness and balance. We seek comment from the relevant parties in a story and represent competing viewpoints honestly, particularly on contested or political topics.
• Separation of news and opinion. Opinion and analysis pieces are labeled as such and reflect the views of their individual authors, not necessarily Origin Pakistan as a whole.
• Respectful coverage. We aim to report on individuals and communities, including in difficult stories, with fairness and dignity.

This is a first-draft policy, published alongside the rest of the site as it continues to be built out phase by phase, and should be reviewed by qualified legal counsel and our editorial leadership before relying on it as a final, production-ready policy.

2. Fact-Checking Policy

Before publication, our reporters and editors work to verify the key facts in a story — names, figures, dates, quotes, and claims of fact — against primary sources or multiple independent, credible sources wherever possible.

• Claims of fact are checked against official records, on-the-record statements, or other verifiable sources before publication.
• Where a claim cannot be independently verified, we say so in the article rather than presenting it as confirmed fact.
• Breaking news coverage may be published as a story develops and is updated, refined, or corrected as further facts are verified.
• Editors review articles before publication as a further check on accuracy, sourcing, and fairness.

3. Corrections Policy

We aim to correct factual errors quickly, transparently, and visibly:

• How corrections are made. When we learn of a factual error in a published article, we update the article and add a dated correction note describing what was changed.
• Significant vs. minor corrections. Minor corrections (such as a typo or a formatting fix) may be made without a separate note. Substantive corrections — those affecting the meaning or accuracy of a story — are always noted on the article, with the date of the correction.
• Reporting an error. If you believe an article contains a factual error, please contact us using the details in Section 7 below so our editorial team can review it.

4. Sources & Attribution Policy

We aim to be transparent about where our information comes from:

• Attribution. Information obtained from another news organization, official body, or third party is attributed to that source within the article.
• Use of wire services and other outlets. Where a story draws substantially on wire copy or another outlet's original reporting, that source is credited.
• Anonymous sources. We prefer named, on-the-record sources. An anonymous source is used only when necessary to report information of genuine public interest that cannot otherwise be obtained, and its use is disclosed to the reader in the article.
• Social media and user-generated content. Content sourced from social media or submitted by the public is verified where possible before publication and is attributed to its original source.

5. AI Content Disclosure

Origin Pakistan may use artificial intelligence tools to support parts of our editorial workflow — for example, to help transcribe interviews, generate a first-draft headline suggestion, or assist with routine research tasks. We are transparent about how these tools fit into our process:

• Human editorial oversight. Every article published on Origin Pakistan is reviewed, fact-checked, and approved by a human editor before publication, regardless of whether an AI tool assisted at any stage.
• AI does not set editorial judgment. Decisions about what to cover, how to frame a story, and what conclusions to draw remain with our human reporters and editors — AI tools are used as a support tool, not as a substitute for editorial judgment.
• Disclosure for substantially AI-generated content. If an article is substantially generated by an AI tool rather than only assisted by one, this will be clearly disclosed to readers on that article.
• Accuracy standard is unchanged. Any AI-assisted content is held to the same Fact-Checking and Corrections Policies described in Sections 2 and 3 above.

This is a first-draft disclosure, published as this policy continues to be built out, and should be reviewed and kept current as our newsroom's use of AI tools evolves.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Editorial Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date above.
