Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said Tuesday the government will approach the Supreme Court seeking a review of its order directing Imran Khan's transfer to Shifa International Hospital for medical treatment. The Supreme Court had earlier ordered Khan be shifted to the private hospital within two days and directed the constitution of a medical board comprising specialists in general medicine, surgery, internal medicine, ophthalmology and cardiology to examine and treat him. Tarar said authorities have proposed Khan's medical examination instead take place at a government hospital, in line with existing rules for convicted prisoners. He said medical experts from any institution could still be included in the process as per the Supreme Court's directions. The law minister argued that treating one prisoner at a private hospital could raise broader legal and administrative questions, noting that thousands of other inmates also have health-related issues. He maintained a prisoner should not be shifted to a private facility unless government hospitals are shown unable to provide the required treatment. Tarar said the government's legal team reviewed the matter and decided to approach the Supreme Court to seek what he called a "suitable modification" of the order, bringing it "within the proper parameters of the Constitution and law."
