Pakistani actress Mahira Khan announced on September 13 that she is expecting her first child with husband Salim Karim, sharing the news directly with fans on Instagram.
Khan posted a photograph of herself cradling her baby bump, captioned simply, "We make plans... and then there is Allah's plan." The post drew a wave of congratulatory messages from fans and fellow actors within hours of being shared.
A Second Child, Her First With Salim Karim
This will be Khan's second child overall. She is already a mother to her 17 year old son, Azlan, from her first marriage to producer Ali Askari, which ended in 2015. Khan married businessman Salim Karim in October 2023, and this pregnancy marks their first child together.
Khan had previously denied being pregnant. In August, she told The Express Tribune that a Reddit post claiming she was expecting and had stepped away from a Netflix project was false, saying at the time, "It's not true that I'm pregnant."
Why the Timing Stands Out
The announcement comes as Khan is drawing attention internationally for other reasons. She recently made her debut at the Toronto International Film Festival for the global premiere of "Your Mother, Your Mother, Your Mother," directed by Bassam Tariq, and is set to receive the Muslim Excellence in Cinema and Art award at the Muslim International Film Festival Toronto alongside Tariq.
