Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a phone call with Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir to discuss regional developments and diplomatic efforts, according to a statement from the Iranian government posted on X.
The two officials discussed political solutions to regional issues and ways to strengthen consultations and cooperation between Iran and Pakistan.
The call comes amid continued diplomatic manoeuvring around the nearly six-month-old Iran war, with Tehran signalling openness to negotiations while insisting any settlement be reached from a position of strength. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said separately that "negotiation is not surrender," adding that Iran's goal is to end the war, lift the siege, and release blocked resources before pursuing nuclear talks.
Pakistan has positioned itself as an active regional mediator throughout the conflict, with both PM Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Munir engaging directly with US and Iranian leadership at various points since the war began.
