The federal government on Friday raised the price of high-speed diesel by Rs1.91 per litre while leaving petrol unchanged, according to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division.

Under the revised rates, high-speed diesel will cost Rs393.66 per litre. Petrol remains at Rs377.71 per litre. The new prices apply from 24 October (Saturday) to 26 October (Monday).

The previous day’s revision, effective 23 October, had cut petrol by Rs1.60 to Rs377.71 and raised diesel by Rs1.64 to Rs391.75.

Taxes and duties stay the same. The government continues to levy Rs114 per litre on petrol and Rs100 per litre on diesel.

Daily pricing mechanism

Pakistan has been setting fuel prices on a daily basis since mid-July 2026. The change was introduced after sharp swings in global oil markets linked to renewed tensions between the United States and Iran. Prices are calculated from a seven-day average of international Platts rates, premiums and other costs. Friday notifications normally cover the weekend and Monday.

Both fuels remain well below the peaks recorded earlier this year. Diesel reached Rs520.35 per litre and petrol Rs458.41 per litre on 3 April 2026.

Who feels the change

The diesel increase raises running costs for trucks, buses, agricultural machinery and industrial users. Petrol users, including private car owners, motorcyclists and rickshaw operators, see no change for the next three days.

A targeted relief scheme announced in September continues to offer Rs100 per litre off petrol for motorcycles, three-wheelers and cars with engines up to 800cc.

The next price review is expected after 26 October under the same daily mechanism. Details are reported by Dawn and Tribune.
